Lane starred in The Nanny until the show ended in 1999.
She attended Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. During her time on The Nanny, she also appeared on The Daily Show in August 1997.
Lane also earned a Master's degree in the advanced training program at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. Associated acts include Fran Drescher, Charles Shaughnessy, and Daniel Davis. In December 2004, she joined the rest of the cast of The Nanny for the Lifetime one-hour special, The Nanny Reunion: A Nosh to Remember.
This Arkansas native’s 40-year career includes work in regional theatre in the U. and Canada, primarily The American Shakespeare Festival, The Stratford National Theatre of Canada, The Guthrie, Seattle Rep, Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Old Globe Theatre, ten seasons with the Williamstown Theatre Festival and six seasons with the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco.
Favorite roles include Garland Wright’s production of The Misanthrope (Alceste), the American premiere of David Hare and Howard Brenton’s Pravda (Lambert Le Roux) directed by Robert Falls, the world premiere of The Film Society (Jonathan Balton) by Jon Robin Baitz and title roles in Hamlet, Peer Gynt, and Arturo Ui. A International Theatre Festival, and with the New York Philharmonic in a concert reading of Stravinsky’s “L’Histoire du Soldat” with Alec Baldwin.
The show also starred Daniel Davis as the Sheffields' nosy butler, Lauren Lane as Mr.
Sheffield's egocentric business partner and Nicholle Tom, Benjamin Salisbury and Madeline Zima as his three children.
From 1993 to 1999, the oddball family – spoiler alert, Fran eventually married her employer – dealt with an amalgamation of everyday problems amid their lives of luxury.
Fran Drescher, who stars on the play as Cinderella's evil step mother, was supported by several of her former cast mates at the West Coast premiere of the Broadway play.
Two years after the show ended, she beat uterine cancer.
